From Injury to College Hockey: How P.R.I.D.E. Helped Harry Flaacke Move and Perform Better

For competitive athletes, an injury affects more than the body. It can interrupt a season, change the direction of a career, and challenge an athlete to find new ways to train, compete, and move forward.

Hockey player Harry Flaacke understands that reality firsthand. After experiencing two significant injuries at different stages of his career, Harry learned that progress required more than simply pushing through the pain. He needed to understand his body, rebuild strength, improve his movement, and develop habits that could support him throughout his athletic career.

With personalized coaching from Jeoff Walters and the team at P.R.I.D.E. Strength Training, Harry discovered a new approach to training—one that helped him feel better, move more efficiently, and continue pursuing college hockey.

From Injury to College Hockey That Changed His Path

Harry’s first major challenge occurred in August 2023 while he was playing hockey in Minnesota. After taking a puck to the face, he also suffered a shoulder injury that ultimately brought his time in Minnesota to an end.

Determined to keep playing, Harry signed with a team in Boston. He competed throughout the entire season while managing ongoing shoulder pain.

Like many dedicated athletes, Harry found a way to stay on the ice. However, playing through the injury did not address the underlying limitations affecting his shoulder or help him understand why certain movements continued to cause discomfort.

That began to change when he found P.R.I.D.E. Strength Training and started working with Jeoff.

A Personalized Approach to Strength and Movement

At P.R.I.D.E., training is not built around a one-size-fits-all program. Every athlete moves differently. Previous injuries, physical limitations, movement patterns, training history, and performance goals all influence how an effective program should be designed.

Jeoff worked with Harry to identify movements he could perform comfortably while rebuilding strength and improving the function of his shoulder. Instead of concentrating only on what Harry could not do, they focused on finding productive ways for him to continue training and progressing.

Through individualized strength work, mobility exercises, consistent coaching, and close attention to movement quality, Harry began noticing a meaningful difference.

“By the end of the summer, I had no pain at all,” Harry shared. “Now my shoulder is in great shape. I’m continuing to improve my range of motion and work through the scar tissue from the injury.”

Harry’s experience reflects an important part of P.R.I.D.E.’s training philosophy: progress begins with understanding the individual. Exercises and training programs can then be adjusted as an athlete’s strength, mobility, confidence, and goals evolve.

Earning an Opportunity to Play NCAA Hockey

With his shoulder feeling stronger and his movement improving, Harry continued working toward the next level of his hockey career.

In the spring of 2025, that work helped lead to an exciting milestone: From Injury to College Hockey, Harry earned the opportunity to play NCAA hockey at Hiram College.

The accomplishment represented much more than a college commitment. It reflected Harry’s persistence and his willingness to keep working after an injury had changed the direction of his athletic career.

Not long after, Harry faced another physical challenge. Rather than viewing the injury as an unfortunate setback, he approached it as an opportunity to adapt, apply what he had learned, and continue growing as an athlete.

A Second Injury—and a Lesson in Adaptability

During training camp in October 2025, ahead of his freshman season at Hiram College, Harry suffered a hand injury.

He made the decision to compete throughout the season while wearing a brace. Once the season ended, Harry worked with a physical therapist and applied what Jeoff had taught him at P.R.I.D.E. to support his return to strength and performance.

This time, Harry had a much better understanding of his body. He knew how to approach training with greater awareness, patience, and purpose. The injury became another obstacle that taught him how to adjust rather than a reason to stop pursuing his goals.

“After the season, I used what Jeoff had taught me, along with physical therapy, to fully rehab my hand,” Harry said. “Now it is stronger than ever.”

P.R.I.D.E. does not replace medical care or physical therapy. Instead, its personalized strength and performance training can complement an athlete’s recovery plan after the athlete has received appropriate medical guidance and clearance.

For Harry, the combination of physical therapy, individualized training, and the knowledge he had gained at P.R.I.D.E. helped him approach the rehabilitation process with greater confidence.

Training That Goes Beyond the Gym

One of the most valuable lessons Harry gained from P.R.I.D.E. was learning how to take care of his body independently.

Effective coaching is about more than guiding an athlete through a single workout. It should help athletes understand how they move, recognize their limitations, perform exercises correctly, make appropriate adjustments, and train with a long-term perspective.

“P.R.I.D.E. taught me how to take care of my body,” Harry explained. “Before P.R.I.D.E., I was in so much pain all the time. Now I feel better and move much better both on and off the ice.”

That education stayed with Harry when he left Tampa for college. The principles he learned at P.R.I.D.E. became tools he could continue using during team training, physical therapy, off-season preparation, and everyday life.

For athletes, that knowledge can be just as valuable as the strength gained during training. Seasons change. Coaches change. Athletes travel, attend college, and move between teams. Understanding how to care for their bodies allows them to carry the benefits of personalized coaching wherever their sport takes them.

How P.R.I.D.E. Supports Athletes

Harry’s story demonstrates why individualized coaching matters, especially for athletes managing previous injuries, returning to training, or preparing for the next level of competition.

P.R.I.D.E. Strength Training provides several services designed to help athletes better understand their bodies and train with purpose.

Personalized Strength Training

Training programs are developed around each athlete’s current abilities, previous injuries, sport, position, schedule, and performance goals.

Coaches can modify exercises as the athlete progresses, creating a program that challenges the body while respecting individual limitations. This personalized approach allows athletes to build strength without relying on a generic routine that may not address how they move or what they need from their sport.

Sports-Performance Training

Athletes can work on the strength, mobility, stability, balance, speed, coordination, and movement quality required for their sport.

For a hockey player, that may include improving lower-body power, core stability, shoulder function, balance, rotational control, and the ability to produce force efficiently. Training can also address areas that may be limiting an athlete’s performance or contributing to uncomfortable movement patterns.

The goal is not simply to make an athlete work harder. It is to help the athlete train more intentionally.

DARI Motion® 3D Movement Analysis

P.R.I.D.E.’s DARI Motion® 3D movement analysis provides objective information about how the body moves.

The sensor-free assessment evaluates areas such as range of motion, joint stability, movement symmetry, balance, posture, and compensation patterns. The information gathered can help P.R.I.D.E.’s coaches create more individualized strength and sports-performance programs while tracking movement changes over time.

For athletes with a history of injuries, a movement analysis can provide valuable insight into how different parts of the body are working together.

In-Person and Online Workout Programming

P.R.I.D.E. offers individualized workout programming for athletes training in Tampa and those who need professional guidance while living, traveling, or attending school elsewhere.

This flexibility can be especially valuable for college athletes who want to continue following a structured program during the school year, off-season, holiday breaks, or periods when they cannot train at the P.R.I.D.E. facility.

Online programming allows the athlete to continue working toward personal goals while maintaining the direction and structure of a professionally designed plan.

Coaching and Athlete Education

Proper technique, body awareness, and a better understanding of movement can help athletes make smarter training decisions.

P.R.I.D.E.’s coaches focus on teaching athletes why they are performing specific movements, how those movements should feel, and when an exercise may need to be adjusted.

This educational approach gives athletes knowledge they can use beyond an individual training session. Harry’s experience with his hand injury is a clear example of how those lessons can continue helping an athlete long after leaving the facility.

Moving Forward Stronger

Harry is now preparing for the next chapter of his hockey career at American International College in Massachusetts. He made the decision to transfer from Hiram College for personal reasons beyond the sport and will continue pursuing his goals both academically and athletically.

His path has included injuries, difficult decisions, changing teams, and countless hours of work. It has also shown what can happen when determination is paired with knowledgeable, personalized coaching.

Harry does not view his injuries as reasons for others to feel sorry for him. He sees them as challenges that taught him how to adapt, learn, and improve. Each experience helped him become more aware of his body and more prepared to handle future obstacles.

His story is not simply about recovering from an injury. It is about becoming a more informed, capable, and resilient athlete.

For Harry, P.R.I.D.E. provided more than a place to work out. It gave him the coaching, tools, and understanding he needed to move better, feel stronger, and continue pursuing the sport he loves.
